Test

By: Matthew G., 8th

All the students in Mrs. Curran’s class,

Had a big test in a week,

They had to study their books and papers,

This test was really looking bleak.

The test was on poetry,

It would test our minds,

If we don’t pass we fail,

This test was one of a kind.

We all filled in our bubble sheets,

Our names, birthday, and lunch code,

This info was just too much for me,

I just couldn’t wait to unload.

We get our test,

100 problems long,

I don’t know if I can do this,

I don’t know if these are right or wrong.

One was figurative language,

The other was alliteration,

Onomatopoeia and rhyme,

Meter, similes, metaphors, repetition.

Yes, yes, yes,

I got it, I got it,

It’s all coming back,

I’m passing this lickity-split.

Seventy-two is sound devices,

The next is assonance,

I can’t believe it,

Oh and eighty is consonance.

This test is nothing,

Personification and all,

I can do this,

I was feeling like a know it all.

Ballad, free verse, haiku,

Then rhyming couplets and lyrics,

It’s all over,

Number one hundred is limericks.

I got the high grade,

I was gloating and causing a fit,

Then Mr. Shuler comes over and says,

Ah bud, put a lid on it!

The Substance

By Kris Y., 8th

You pick me up and walk to the checkout line, pull out your wallet and think you’ll soon be mine.

Your friends all watch every move you make; the clerk asks for your ID, you show him a fake.

You quickly walk to the front of the store, your friends all waiting as you step out the door.

You hop into the car, drive away from the shop, turn off the ignition and pop off my top.

You take a few drinks and pass me around. Then you decide to drive around town.

You start up the car, put your foot on the clutch, I’m sober you think, I didn’t drink much.

You pull onto the road, me by your side, taking little sips as you enjoy your ride.

The brakes on the car ahead of you squeal, you try to stop but you lose control of the wheel.

You skid off the road and know you have crashed, the windshield is shattered, the dash board is smashed.

Minutes like hours, you’re in horrible pain, it washes your senses, envelopes you brain.

The screams all around you are faint to your ears, your life flashes before you, your hopes and your fears.

Minutes like hours, you plead and you pray, I’ll never touch it again just let me live one more day.

Your mind starts to go dark, it falls apart piece by piece, you slip into darkness, finally the pain has ceased.

Before you entered that store you should have thought twice for I am the substance that could cost you your life.

Bridge

by Shannon S., 7th

There is a bridge from you heart to mine

Reaching across, it pulls us together

Stretching over unknown waters

It connects us in ways we have yet to learn

The bridge shows us how much we are alike

Yet in so many ways, different, as well

Bringing us closer

There is a bridge.

The Time

by Whitney M., 8th

The time when foliage seem as if they’ve been painted brilliant green.

The time when animals come out after hiding form the blistering cold.

The time when the atmosphere finally is warm enough to play.

The time to see beautiful bulbs bloom as if they are reaching to the sky.

The time when birds mate and butterflies flitter a graceful ballet.

The time when everything is alive and the dull grey is chased away.

The time…

Once on a Seashore

By Alex Z., 6th

Once on a seashore

Once on a seashore where the children play,

Where the seagulls eat by the bay

There was a simple way to be.

Once on a seashore where the girls build castles

Where nothing was a hassle

There was a friendly way to be.

Now on the seashore there is nothing but waste

There is nothing but people with their noises and look with haste

Now once on a seashore everything’s destroyed for

Once on a seashore was only once before

The Bridge I Thought I Could Be

by Tanesha S., 7th

Thoughts jumping at me, can’t hear myself think

Why am I feeling this way, I dreamed of a better life

The bridge kept it together; I’m scared what am I to do

Thoughts getting worse, I can hear my heart as it is beating

It’s getting louder and louder

The bridge started shaking

Then soon as I crossed the bridge it shattered in the lake

The home that I thought I could go to the peace just came falling down

Of was it just me

The Machine

By Kathryn M., 7th

Quiet, quiet

Blissful silent

In the woods on the big hill

Nothing moving

Nothing stirring

Except for the old mill

No bird chirp

No chipmunk chatter

Then a huge clatter

Out of the blue

A machine know one knew

Storming

Warning

Of something terrible to come

Run, run

You must get away

Hopefully to warn someone someday

Fast it chases

The machine screaming

Its gears protesting

Smoke, smoke coming out in billows

Screaming, screaming ever screaming

Suddenly stopping in mid-flight

It is dead

You puzzle its purpose

Its gears

Its wheels

Its saw

Its jaws

You come again day after day

You puzzle all the same

Birds come back

Chipmunks resume presence

All as should be, except for the machine

Stay, it does

Puzzle it does

You slowly get old

Then you understand

You unlock the knowledge

The mystery!

You pass it on

And they pass it on

And they pass it on

And on

And on

And on

What should we do?

By Hessy S. , 6th

The sun shines on a perfect day

And the sky is a glorious blue

Then, what should happen?

Should we waste it inside?

Frying our minds with computers and T.V

Or should we spend it outside

Admiring the weather or nature

Or how about just appreciate the day?

A Brilliant Bridge It Is

By Hessy S., 6th

The stone bridge stands proudly

Over the river of magnificent blue water

Baby ducks swim happily creating ripples

Even though it’s little

The bridge makes the scene perfect

Like the sparkle in a child’s eye

Completes it.

Home on the Ocean

By : Hessy S., 6th

Glittering sea shells shine on the shore

Like jewels of the sea

Mystic blue water stretches out

As far as the eye can see

Sparkling sand under my feet

Warm and confronting

Some people may call this paradise

Some may call it Heaven

But I,

I call it home

Tell a Story With Your Face

By: Hessy S., 6th

Tell a story with your face

Your expressions

Your emotions

Tell a story about bravery, about courage

The victory

The failure

Tell a story about culture

The tradition

The heritage

Tell a story about happiness

The joy

The memories

Or tell a story about the end

Who knows what this means

Who doesn’t

Unfortunate Years of Misery

By: Hessy S., 6th

Finally after long years of battle

I have come home

But alas

My family has fled from my home land

What is to become of me?

I should go find them

But what is this I see?

A letter from the government

Oh woe is me, woe is me

They were killed by the enemy

Never again shall I see sunlight

Love and Hatred

By Jelise B., 7th

When you love someone,

They are like the world to you

But when they love you and someone else,

You just want to strangle them with love.

Breaking your heart into pieces,

Now they realize what they have done.

Now they want you back and you just can’t say no…

You just take them back, take their hand and say

“With love and hatred makes the greatest day!"

A WALK IN THE PARK

BY: BRITTANY F., 6th

A crisp breeze in the air sway the trees.  As I took a walk in the park.  Leaves began to fall on the moist wet ground.  It’s almost as though they tried to dance to the wind.  I noticed the trail was soft and sturdy all at the same time.  Another short distance across the gate of the park I heard a whistle from above.  I looked up and there were birds singing on this lovely fall day.

Just Four Words

by Whitney M., 8th

Just four words

is all you need

to have a smile

or a laugh.

Just four words

can make you feel

that what you did

was really worthwhile.

Just four words

gives you a sensation

that makes you cry

with much happiness.

Just four words

can get you to

jump in the air

and sing a silly song.

Just four words

can make you see

the happiness

in which you bring.

Just four words

can let you be

as happy as

a winner of a raffle.

Just four words

can let you feel

that you can run

to the sun for fun.

Just four words

can’t you see that

what you needed to hear was

“I’m proud of you!”

Winter

By Azlynn Jade M., 6th

Winter Winter snow on the trees

Winter Winter he is after me

Winter Winter how could it be

Winter Winter he is after me

Winter Wonderland

by Whitney M., 8th

Barren fields full of brown,

Everything dead,

Birds are gone,

Children inside.

To cold to play,

To cold for flip-flops,

It rains all night,

It’s gray all day.

Buildings seem dreary,

Paths seem old,

TV’s are on,

Video games are played.

Then it comes silent,

Silent as Indians,

Small as a whisper,

An ant, a crumb.

Looking up you see it,

Coming as a present,

Just the tiniest flake,

Winter Wonderland has come.

BACKYARD

BY:BRITTANY F., 6th

The robins in the old oak tree chirping to the foggy new morning.  The sun is just rising.  Take a breath of air and you will see how fresh fall can be.

SUN TAN BY:BRITTANY F., 6th

I’m now in the school court yard.  Looking out at the little trees.  Feeling a light breeze across my face.  Wondering what the walk way leads to in the school.  Barley any clouds in the sky.  Infact I only see one.  I can hear the air conditioner trying to keep the building cool.  Not a single bird in the sky.  There’s only a noisy airplane.  What a hot day, warm day, perfect sun tan day.

Twilight

By: Meagan F., 6th

Using words from Twilight by Stephanie Meyer for inspiration

Teeth

Tearing in my wrist

Fire

Scorching in my veins

Pain

Excruciating pain

Edward

The love of my life

Emmett

Jasper

Alice

All trying to save me

James

The blood thirsty vampire

Dead by now

I wake in the hospital

No more pain

No more burning feeing

I was saved

They had done it

6 GRADE

Mountains are high valleys are low

but wherever we are and wherever we go

we’ll get through this and that’s the one thing I do know.
